Alta Donahue

Alta Donahue, 97, of Sistersville, WV, passed away on October 19, 2024 at The Heritage at St. Mary’s.

She was born on October 4, 1927 in Thorpe, WV, a daughter of the late James Hansford Eller and Maggie Sexton Eller.

Alta was the owner and operator of the Dairy Queen in Sistersville for 23 years, managed Dudley’s Florist and worked at the State Food Store. She was a member of the Sistersville First Baptist Church.  She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Darlene Henderson) Danser of Friendly, WV; daughters, Jeannie (Jack) Floyd of Denver, NC and Donna Johnson of Friendly, WV; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren and several favorite nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wiley Danser, Jr. and second husband, Joe Donahue; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Harold Furbee; son-in-law, Bernie Johnson; daughter-in-law, JoLynn Danser; step-daughter, Lynn Blum; 3 brothers and 6 sisters.

There will be a memorial visitation at the Sistersville First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Darrell Mayfield.
