Brenda "Bunny" Hammel Starkey, 70, of Parkersburg, WV, formerly Sistersville, WV, passed away on February 12, 2023 at WVU Camden Clark Medical Center.
She was born April 14, 1952, in Wetzel County, WV, to the late Wilbert Hammel and Ida Nolan Hammel.
Bunny was a Christian, wife, momma, Meme, daughter, sister, teacher, friend, voice of an angel and always full of love. She was a proud graduate of Sistersville High School Class of 1970 and West Virginia State College. She was a member of the Sistersville First Baptist Church, where she served in whatever capacity she was needed. She worked at Union Bank of Tyler County, the Wetzel-Tyler Health Department and retired from teaching as a special educator (her passion) at Sistersville Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Starkey, II of Parkersburg, WV; daughters, Heather (Brad) Starkey of Ripley, WV and Katie (Jason) Potts of Vienna, WV; stepson, Ben (Morgan) Starkey of Guyton, GA; stepdaughter, Becci (Alex) Ripley of Glen Dale, WV; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Shayla) Starkey, Lily Starkey, Jacob (Sydney) Starkey, Gregory (Allison) Potts, Samuel Potts, Naomi Potts, Kaden Starkey, Landen Starkey, Dakx Starkey, Arya Ripley and Amelya Ripley; great-grandchildren, Luca Starkey and Frankie Starkey; sisters, Ramona (Bill) Williamson and Gaynelle (Bob) Pitts and brother, Sam (Connie) Hammel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Clarice (Bill) Fouchs and brothers, Fred (Jean) Hammel and Raymond "Bud" Hammel.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Sistersville First Baptist Church with Pastor Darrell Mayfield officiating. Inurnment will follow at Northview Cemetery.
