Dianne Carse

Dianne Carse of Sistersville, WV peacefully passed away in Marietta Memorial Hospital on November 9, 2012 after a spirited battle with an extended illness. Born on January 18, 1931 at the home of her maternal grandparents in Middlebourne, WV, Dianne was proceeded in death by her father, Robert Ash (1960), an infant son, David (1965), sister, Barbara, in 1982, mother, Imogene Ash (1986), brother, David of Hampton, VA (1994) and son, Christopher (2009). Dianne was a graduate of Tyler County High School and attended Petersburg (VA) and Parkersburg High Schools as her father was a civilian army employee. She spent a great deal of cherished time with her grandparents, Lloyd and Bertha Way, of Middlebourne where she met her husband of nearly 62 years, Carlton G. Carse from Wick. It was while driving his convertible along Staley Street where her grandparents lived that Carlton spied his future bride. Story has it that he asked her girlfriend to ask her out for him; her reply, not surprisingly, was that if he wanted a date he would have to ask for it himself. He did and the rest is history. Dianne worked in Parkersburg WV as a secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield before marrying Carlton on December 23, 1950. For those who remember, that was the year of “the big snow.” Their wedding at the Middlebourne Methodist Church was officiated by Rev. Mrs. Achsah Miller of the United Brethren Church. The newlyweds moved into their home on South Wells Street in Sistersville and Carlton began his 45 year plus career with Monongahela Power Company. Dianne answered a company phone in their home taking after hours calls. Dianne and Carlton built their home at 241 Oxford Street in Sistersville in 1953 where they raised their family along with many other young families at the time, and enjoyed many wonderful neighbors for more than 60 years. Dianne was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sistersville where she was a Sunday school teacher and involved with the youth group and vacation bible school program, United Methodist women and other committees. Dianne was a 50 year member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the SHS Athletic and Band Boosters Clubs, the Dogwood Twig of Sistersville General Hospital, and Sistersville Jaycees, also she enjoyed writing feature stories for the Wheeling Intelligencer and News Register, as well as selling Avon. She also worked for their son’s business, Carse Electric, for 17 years. Dianne is survived by her husband, Carlton, and their two surviving children Craig (Leslie Buck) Carse of Abilene, Texas and Susan (Wayne) Norris of Bishop, Georgia. Dianne and Carlton have five grandchildren, Allison Carse of Sistersville, David (Erin) Carse of Billings, Montana, Matthew Carse of Anchorage Alaska, Lindsey Carse of Marina Del Rey, CA, Abby Carse McLocklin of Altanta, GA and one great grandchild, Cash Christopher Carse, of Billings, Montana with his sister to be born in December. Dianne will be missed by her faithful husband, Carlton, children, family and friends and remembered as a woman of great resolution and grit. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Sistersville Center and the ICU & Hospice Staff of Marietta Memorial Hospital for their gifts of loving care and kindness along with neighbors and friends who showed Dianne and Carlton support in so many ways. Craig and Susan would also like to thank the many people who helped them as they tended to their parents’ needs during their mother’s illness. Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 11:30 am-2 pm and 5-7 pm at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, with Services on Monday, November 12 at 11:00 am, Myers Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville, WV.
