Donald "Donnie" Gene Evans, Jr.

Donald “Donnie” Gene Evans, Jr., 70, of Sistersville, WV, passed away on May 12, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Sistersville, WV on March 22, 1954, to Catherine “Kay” Evans and the late Donald Gene Evans, Sr.

Donnie retired from Murray Energy-Marshall County Coal Company as a Bunker Operator, he was the courier for Union Bank and he attended Sistersville First Baptist Church.  He played football at Glenville State College and was a member of the TKE fraternity. He was a basketball official for 26 years and was an LKC softball official. He and his father, Don Sr., coached the American Legion Post #6327 baseball team.  He was an avid sports fan, great joke-teller, loved camping and boating, but most of all he loved his grandbabies immensely.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Martin Evans of Sistersville, WV; daughters, Shannon (Mark) Hartley and Kylee (Dillon) Reed, both of Sistersville, WV; sisters, Kitty (Bob) Gruschin, Malee (Bill) Haley, Jane Kinkaid, Vicci Evans and Joanna “JoJo” (Stacy) Orr; grandchildren, Erik (Cosette), Breanna (Brock), John Richard, Addison, Kolten and Everlee Jo; great-grandchildren Madelyn and Ellie Mae and one on the way, Naavya Louise and numerous nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Donald Duck”.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Courtney Evans and grandson, Sawyer Austin Evans.

Funeral services will be on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Myers Funeral Home with Pastor Joyce Hill officiating.  Interment will follow at Friendly Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday from 12:00 pm until time of funeral service at 3:00 pm at Myers Funeral Home.
