Donald Gene Evans,

Donald Gene Evans, Sr., 79, of Sistersville, passed away on January 17, 2014. Don Sr. was born in Paden City, WV on June 24, 1934, to the late Kenneth and Ola (Foland) Evans. Don Sr. was active in his community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sistersville and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #333 in Sistersville. Don Sr. also spent a lot of time at the Sistersville Country Club. He retired with 35 years of service at Union Carbide. Throughout his sports career, Don Sr. was an avid Mountaineer fan. He coached Little League baseball, was an American Legion baseball coach and a High School basketball/baseball Official. Most importantly, he was a loving husband and an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine "Kay" (Dieringer) Evans and six children. One son, Donald "Donnie" (Joan) Evans, Jr., of Sistersville; and five daughters, Kathlyn "Kitty" (Bob) Gruschin of Stuart, Florida; Malee (Bill) Haley, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jane Evans Kincaid, of Stuart, Florida; Victoria "Vicci" Barnhart, of Friendly; and Joanna "JoJo" (Stacy) Orr of Crownsville, Maryland; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bobby" Evans; sister, Janice (Evans) Myers; grandson, Courtney Evans and great-grandson, Sawyer Evans. Services will be Wednesday, January 22, at 1 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, with Rev. Colleen Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Courtney Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O.
