Doris Wharton

Doris Wharton, 96, of New Cumberland, WV, passed away on November 16, 2023.

She was born October 3, 1927, at home, to the late George and Estella Eddy of Alvy, WV.

At the age of 16, she married the lover her life, Denzil Wharton and they enjoyed a good life.  After Denzil’s retirement, they would spend 5 months out of every year in Florida where they enjoyed golfing and making new friends.  They did those things until Denzil’s death in 1995.

As of late, she was a member of the New Cumberland Heights Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana (Butch) Ridgway of New Cumberland, WV; son, Jerrold (Mary) Wharton of Parkersburg, WV; sister, Pearl Myers of Parkersburg, WV; grandchildren, Michael (Andy) Ridgeway, Tim (Bobbie) Ridgway, Kevin (Rachel) Ridgway, Andrea (Andy) Kjos, Estelle (Billy) Hatcher and Peter Wharton; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Denzil Wharton; brother, Jim Eddy; sister, Norma Jean Kinney and brothers-in-law, Robert Kinney and Leon Myers.

The family would like to thank all of the young ladies at Hope Cottage, Weirton, WV and Valley Hospice for giving “Mom” love and the very best care.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm at Myers Funeral Home with Evangelist Brian Price officiating. Interment will be in Victory Cemetery.
