The Lord called Frances Wamsley Mason, 79, of Sistersville, WV home on March 6, 2025, where she passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and under the care of Journey Hospice.
Fran was born on August 6, 1945, in Harrisville, WV. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sistersville where she served as the church clerk for over 47 years.
She was a proud graduate of Sistersville High School class of 1963. Fran's favorite pastime was hanging out at the local hang out spot, the Tiger Den, with friends after school, where she enjoyed listening to music on the jukebox, eating pizza, drinking fountain cokes and playing pinball where she was known as the "Pinball Queen". She always looked forward to seeing and catching up with old friends at the Sistersville Alumni Events during Memorial Weekend, and putting together pictures for the window displays and working on the floats for the parades. She loved growing up here and raising her family because Sistersville wasn't just a small town to her, it was a place where she knew just about everyone and you could stand around on the streets "lollygagging" to whoever you ran into that day, Sistersville was her favorite place to be. Fran also loved planning trips for her family and friends, from trips to the beach, to Family Reunions and everything in between. Fran made friends wherever she went and never met a stranger. She always enjoyed traveling with family and friends, listening to and telling stories, playing board games, and was a lifelong Elvis Presley Fan.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Arthur "Red" Mason, and their two daughters, Shelley (Joe) Ritchie of Bridgeport, WV and Sherie Kemp of Sistersville, WV; and grandsons, Wyatt Kemp (fiance Alexandria "Red" Moore) and Jerod Kemp, JD and Mason Ritchie; great-grandsons, Easton, Bentley and Bryson Kemp and many Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard "Dick" Gherke, Ray "Butch" Wamsley, Steven Wamsley, and Ethan "Biff" Wamsley, and sisters, Kathryn "Kay" Keith and Sandra Bennett.
A Celebration of Life Dinner will be held at the First Baptist Church in Sistersville, WV on Saturday, March 15th, at 1PM with Family and Friends. A small private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Fran's wishes were to have others consider helping those in need by contributing to the First Baptist Church to boost their Sistersville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry Ministry at P.O. Box 64 Sistersville, WV 26175.
