Gary Edwin Layman, 81, of Reynoldsburg, OH, passed away on August 19, 2022 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was a 1960 graduate of South High School, where he participated in choir and other activities.Gary was a retired Officer at the Ohio Department of Corrections.He started his career as a Honor Carrier for the Columbus Dispatch later moving to their main office and then working for car dealerships in their Finance & Insurance departments. In his younger years, Gary enjoyed his involvement in the Bexley Chapter of the Order of DeMolay, where he served as Master Councilor.He was a member and past Council President of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pickerington, OH and played on Grace's dartball team for over 50 years.He was a 2018 recipient of The Rose of Concern.He had a passion for bowling, softball, golfing, riding roller coasters with his daughters, watching OSU football, QVC shopping and spending time with his grandchildren, Andrew, Abby, Avery and Dakota. He was born June 3, 1941, in Columbus, OH, and was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Madeline McDaniel Layman; son, Thomas Patrick, as well as his loving cat/sidekick Turtle and step-cat, Bear. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Judi) Levernier, Reynoldsburg, OH; daughters, Suzanne (Rocco) Martis, Pittsburgh, PA and Lisa (Josh) Pressley, Sistersville, WV; sister, Janet Layman Cathel, Columbus, OH; nephew, Marcus (Tracy) Cathel, South Solon, OH; niece, Shauna Cathel, Laurelville, OH and step-son, Charlie (Tina) Reed, Mason, OH. No public service will be held, but the family will be honoring his wishes of a private memorial at the Chapel of Transfiguration in the Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming.
