Gene Patterson

Gene Patterson, 89, of Vienna, WV, formerly Sistersville, WV, passed away on February 14, 2022 at Stonerise of Parkersburg. He was born August 11, 1932, in Sistersville, WV, to the late Clyde R. Patterson and Ida Verona (Smith) Patterson. Gene was a 1951 graduate of Sistersville High School. He enjoyed playing football and basketball at SHS. Gene was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family first. His children and grandchildren, blessed with his sacrifice of time and energy, benefited from his guidance. Gene served the City of Sistersville, as the City Commissioner for over 50 years. His knowledge, work ethic and desire to help the citizens of Sistersville was unprecedented. Through the years, he served many children coaching youth sports, as well as participating in endless booster groups. There were many memories made on his front porch, as he and Janice were so welcoming to friends for impromptu visits. He was a member of the Sistersville First United Methodist Church and the Sistersville Elks Lodge BPOE #333. Gene is survived by sons, William "Bill" (Kim) Patterson of Parkersburg, WV and Robert "Bob" Patterson of Parkersburg, WV; daughter, Betsy Patterson of Parkersburg, WV; grandsons, Blake (Megan) Patterson, Matt (Carrie) Patterson, Bruce Patterson and Tyler Bolen and granddaughters, Emily (Robert) Rudolph and Jaye Lynn DeVaughn; great grandchildren, Brooks Patterson, Virginia Patterson, Demi Patterson, Evelyn Rudolph, and Eli Rudolph. In addition to his parents and loving wife (Janice) of 66 years, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert, Stanley, Dixie, and Alan; as well as, grandson, Beau Patterson.
