George Albert Bridgeman, 93, of New Martinsville, WV, passed away, April 10, 2018. He was born February 15, 1925, in New Martinsville, WV, a son of the late George B. Bridgeman and Georgia Long Bridgeman. George was a self-employed carpenter. He was a United States Army Air Corp veteran, where he was a WWII pilot with the B-24 Liberators. He was one of the youngest pilots to complete 35 missions over Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Marne Post #28, New Martinsville. He enjoyed many sports and he loved watching Magnolia High School sports, WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, John and Robert Bridgeman. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Bridgeman of New Martinsville, WV; mother of his children, Rose Bridgeman; daughters, Dawn (Bob) Allen of Nicholasville, KY, Brenda (Jerry) Shepherd of New Martinsville, WV, Karen Plachta of New Martinsville WV, Patty (Jay) Burkhart of Culpepper, VA and Amy (Doug) DeWitt of McConnelsville, OH; step-son, Michael (Jennifer) Hamilton of Washington Court House, OH; also daughter, Jane Paull of Southern California; sister, Mary Martha Moore of New Martinsville, WV; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his caretakers, Debbie Campbell, Charlene Lemley and Jan Pavlic. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 28th at the First Presbyterian Church of New Martinsville with Pastor Bobby Thomas officiating. Inurnment will be at Northview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to the Magnolia Athletic Boosters, P.O.
