George W. Dougherty, 89, of Paden City, WV, passed away September 4, 2013, at Sistersville Center, Sistersville, WV. He was born July 11, 1924 in McKeesport, PA., the son of the late George J. Dougherty and Marion C. Johnson Dougherty. He was a veteran of World War II where he was highly decorated with the silver star medal and two purple hearts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post 5108, Marietta, OH and the American Legion of Sistersville, WV. He is survived by his spouse, Doris L. Grimes Efaw Dougherty, Paden City, WV, sons, David Dougherty, Pittsburgh, PA, Paul Dougherty, Pittsburgh, PA, John Dougherty, Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Mark Dougherty, Pittsburgh, PA, stepsons, David Efaw, Hannibal, OH, Tony Efaw, Newport News, VA, stepdaughters, Penny Howard, Sistersville, WV, Kim Weiss, Paden City, WV, five grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Jean Dougherty, Lorraine Stephen, Joan Cottrill and stepson, Terry Efaw. He will be a donor to the Human Gifts Program at West Virginia University Hospital and there will be no visitation or funeral service. Myers Funeral Home of Sistersvlle, WV is assisting the family.
