Helen Elizabeth Burgess

Helen Elizabeth Griffith Burgess, 88, of Sistersville, WV, passed away October 9, 2015 at The Heritage, St. Marys, WV, surrounded by her family. She was born October 31, 1926, in Sistersville, WV, a daughter of the late Henry Griffith and Florence Griffith. Helen taught Social Studies and Home Economics at Sistersville High School for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of the Sistersville First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She is survived by her sons, Richard "Dick" (Mary) Burgess of Parkersburg, WV and Thomas "Tom" (Karon) Burgess of Phenix City, AL; daughters, Nancy (Greg) Richmond of New Martinsville, WV, Ellen (Stan) Stewart of North Augusta, SC and Linda (Kent) Yoho of Sistersville, WV; grandchildren, Jay Harrison, Amy Allen, Christopher Burgess, Aaron Burgess, Erica Perry, Jesse Stewart, Charles "Chip" Stewart, Nichole Surface, Cameron Yoho and Sydney Yoho; and great-grandchildren, Jake Alexander, Dylan Alexander, Ashton Allen, Taylor Harrison, Josie Harrison, Reece Harrison, Ellie Perry, Will Perry, Nan Perry, Spence Perry and S.J. Surface. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wesley Burgess in 1995; sister, Hazel DeGarmo Oliver and grandson, Ryan Burgess. Services will be Monday, October 12, 2015 from 11:00 am until time of service at 2:00 pm at Myers Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Dawson officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
