James "Jim" Dotson, 82, of St. Marys, WV, passed away, January 28, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1935, in St. Marys, WV, a son of the late Harry "Hank" Dotson, Sr. and Beulah Marie Grant Dotson. Jim was an Aeronautics Engineer at IBM and he was a United States Navy veteran. Jim had many accomplishments throughout his career. He was awarded for outstanding achievement in Aeronautics. He was a part of the United States Air Force Global Positioning System (GPS) team. The Global Positioning System was recognized by the National Aeronautics Association as the most significant development for safe and efficient navigation and surveillance of air and spacecraft since the introduction of radio navigation over 50 years ago. There is a trophy with the names of the team inscribed on permanent display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. He is survived by a son, Doug (Nancy) Dotson of Watertown, NY and daughter, Angela (Gary) Adlington of Highland, MD; sister, Ruth Wagner of St. Marys, WV; grandchildren, Laurie Adlington, Kari Adlington and Valerie Adlington and Jessica Melchiors and Sarah Dotson and great-grandchildren, Alex Melchiors and Caitlyn Melchiors In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harry Dotson, Jr., Grant Dotson and Raymond Dotson and sister, Letha Gault.
