Janet Deaton

Janet Geneva Deaton, 90, of Friendly, WV, passed away at home on Wednesday November 27, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on November 19, 1934, to the late David and Ethel (Thorn) Cowgill in Little, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roger Lee Deaton, and her brother, Gerald Cowgill.

Janet was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was the heart of a large, close-knit family that spanned generations. Her home was always bustling with the laughter and chatter of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and the smells of delicious home cooked meals. She was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for over 50 years.

Janet leaves behind a vast and loving family, including her brother, Adrian (Betty) Cowgill of Friendly, WV; sister, Martha Buck of The Villages, FL; six children, Chris (Betty) Deaton of Sistersville, WV, Pam (Greg) Buck of Centreville, AL, Brad (Deanna) Deaton of Belpre, OH, Joan Adkins of New Martinsville, WV, Matt (Thelma) Deaton and Stacy Boice both of Friendly, WV; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Paden City, WV.  Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 3 PM and 4 PM to 6 PM prior at Myers Funeral Home in Sistersville, WV.   A graveside service will be held at 2PM on Sunday December 1, 2024 at Friendly Cemetery.
