John P. Eckels

John P. Eckels, 79, of Sistersville, WV, passed away October 19, 2015 at home. He was born October 27, 1935, the son of the late Dr. Reverend Harry Eckels and Mary Tebay Eckels. John was the co-owner of Eckels Funeral Home in Sistersville for over 30 years. He was also the owner of Eckels Furniture Store. He served for several years as the President of the Sistersville Ferry Board where he helped to re-establish the Sistersville Ferry by securing many grants. He was a Trustee and Finance Chairman for several years as well as a member of the Sistersville First United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the Medical Corps of the 4th Armored Division in Leipheim, Germany. He was also a member of the Wetzel Masonic Lodge #39, Nemesis Shrine, Parkersburg and the Sistersville ELKS Lodge #333. John is survived by his sons, Dr. Scott (Kim) Eckels of Williamstown, WV and Todd (Patty) Eckels of Morgantown, WV; and grandchildren, Logan, Caroline, Olivia, Jeremy and Kayla. The family would like to extend their gratitude to longtime caregiver, Kate Beegle as well as his many caregivers and Journey Hospice for their wonderful support. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Eckels in 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Journey Hospice, 314 S. Wells Street, Sistersville, WV 26175. Services will be Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Myers Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Dawson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at Myers Funeral Home. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at myersfuneralhomewv.com.
