Kathleen Louise Shirer

Kathleen Louise Mitchell Shirer, 56, of 810 Wells Street, Sistersville, WV, passed to her eternal reward from Sistersville General Hospital on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Kathy was born March 19, 1955, in Follansbee, WV, to George and Pauline Mitchell. She graduated from Brooke High School in 1972 and attended the Weirton Campus of West Liberty State College. Kathy was married to Pastor Dennis Shirer and they raised their four children together. Kathy worked outside the home for REM. Inc., as a Program Coordinator for two homes for handicapped adults and served in various capacities in the Head Start Program. She was a devoted pastor’s wife and ministered to children on both the local church and district church levels in the Church of the Nazarene. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, George W. Mitchell; brother, Robert Lee Mitchell, niece, Shawna Mitchell and a granddaughter, Carol-Ann Lawrence. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Pastor Denny Shirer; four children, son, Carl W. Shirer of Weirton, WV; daughters, Katie (Lee) Rawson of Wellsburg, WV, Erica Shirer of Paden City, WV and Elizabeth (Chris) Lawrence of New Martinsville, WV; and three grandsons, Christopher Shirer, Daniel Rawson and Caleb Lawrence; mother, Pauline Mitchell of Follansbee, WV; three brothers, George (Jane) Mitchell of Fort Myers, FL, William (Tina) Mitchell of Colliers, WV and Robert Mitchell of Follansbee, WV. Services will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Nazarene of Sistersville with Reverend J. Kevin Dennis and Dr. Wesley Frederick officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery in Colliers, WV at 4:00 pm. Online condolences may be offered at myersfuneralhomewv.com.
