Kathryn F. Sawyers died on Good Friday, March 29, 2013, in Blairsville, Ga. She was born at Widen, W.Va., on Oct. 22, 1922, to Fay R. and Pearle Johnson Fockler. She was educated in West Virginia Schools, graduating from Nicholas County High School, Summersville, and attended Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W.Va., and taught school in Harrison County. Her late husband, Frederick P. Sawyers, owned and operated The Sawyers Funeral Home in Middlebourne, W.Va. for several years. Mrs. Sawyers was retired from the Health Department of West Virginia, and worked as a social worker at the Colin Anderson Center for several years. She is survived by her son, Dr. Danny R. Sawyers (Kathleen) of Hudson, Ohio; and her daughter, Patricia (David) Yancey of Murphy, N.C.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Jim Hans (Pauline) of Ocala, Fla. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Sawyers was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Marys, W.Va. She was also a member of the Eastern Star of New Martinsville, W.Va. Graveside service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Monday at Middlebourne Cemetery by the Rev. Troy Guild of the Middlebourne Baptist Church and members of New Martinsville Chapter #50 Order of Eastern Star. Any memorials should be made to the donor's choice of charities.
