Clara Catherine "Katy" Wells, 69, of Middlebourne, WV, passed away December 2, 2018 at home, surrounded by her family. She gave cancer a valiant fight since her diagnosis in March 2015. She was born September 22, 1949, in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Harry Spencer and Hazel Hickman Spencer. Katy was a Paramedic for 39 years. She started volunteering for the squad in 1974, first as an EMT and then became a paramedic in 1979. She never officially retired from the squad and took runs and remained Chief until this past October. Phoenix awards and the Star of Life are just the beginning of her accolades. Katy had a large family, whom she loved deeply. She is survived by her son, Brian (Betsy) Carpenter of Vienna, WV; daughters, Tammy (Matt) Archer of Charleston, WV and Carrie (Nathan) Six of New Cumberland, WV. One cannot forget how she loved her grandchildren; Levi, Becca, Ryen, Matthew (Estefany), Swayde, Luke, Blake, Brady, Elizabeth, and Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Octavia and Ava. Among the many friends and family, Nana will also be missed by Brittany Hagy and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Middlebourne EMS, Tyler County Unit #1, PO Box 128, Sistersville, WV 26175.
