Kenneth O. Thomas, 77, of Rt. 1, Box 31A, Middlebourne, W.Va. passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, August 4, 2008. He was surrounded by love and friendship on his journey to meet his Lord and Savior. Kenneth was born in Tyler County, W.Va. on February 1, 1931. He was the second son of Thurman and Evelyn Martin Thomas. He joined with his older brother Rev. Donald (Montana) in welcoming Norma Jean Thompson, Joseph (Melanie), and Roma Lou (Billy) Hart to the family. He attended the Lane School at Little, W.Va. and went on to graduate from Sistersville High School Class of 1948. After working a few years on the family farm, Kenneth joined the Army, where he did his training with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, and was stationed in Germany with the Service Battery of the 532D Forward Artillery and Observation until 1957. He served in the reserves until 1961. When he returned to Tyler County, he chose farming as his life. He started a dairy farm, bringing the first elevated milking parlor to the area. In 1962 he married Lora Keller. Together they brought a family of three to the community; Grace and Jon Grover, Kenny and Patricia Thomas, and Sarah and Jim Boley, who all chose to make their homes near their parents. Along came Kenneth's pride and joy, his grandsons, Cullen and Evan Grover, Caleb and Jeremiah Boley, and Matthew Boley of Strasburg, Va. Late in life he was blessed again with Buddy, his Corgi. With his family he embraced the lifestyle of the farm community, including involvement in 4-H Leaders Association. He was an active member of the Archer's Chapel Cemetery Association as treasurer, Middlebourne IOOF#69 and past Chaplin of WV Grand Lodge. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Assoc., 4-H Allstar, and also active in many other farm and community organizations. Kenneth attended the Little United Methodist Church where he worshiped and served the Lord. He based his life on 1Corinthians 13. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Little United Methodist Church, Middlebourne, W.Va. with Pastor Paul White, Pastor Roger Fontaine, Rev. Donald Thompson and Pastor Phyllis Mehaffie officiating. Services will conclude with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville, W.Va. Friends may call from 2 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Sistersville, W.Va. Donations in memory of Kenneth may be made to the Little United Methodist Church, c/o Linda Fitzsimmons, Treasurer, Rt. 1 Box 79, Middlebourne, WV. His final words to many were "Thanks for being my friend and remember your Creator."
