Leonard R. Northcraft, 85, of Friendly, W.Va., passed away Monday, November 17, 2008, at Sistersville General Hospital. He was born November 19, 1922, in Friendly, a son of the late Joseph and Laura Barnhart Northcraft. He was a carpenter and farmer, an Army veteran of World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of American Legion Post 67 of Sistersville and the Carpenters Union. He farmed his whole life in Friendly. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Ann Pierpoint Northcraft; son, Steve Northcraft of Florence, S.C.; daughter, Karen (Lewis) Vandegrift of Bridgeport, W.Va.; sister, Hilda Floyd of Oxford, Fla.; and grandchildren, Makenzie and Colby of Florence, S.C., Alison (Jamie) DeMaria of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Ryan Vandegrift of Pittsburgh, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Robert, Victor and Oscar Northcraft; and sisters, Edna Virden, Olive Kelley, Edith Clark and Hazel Galford. Special thanks to his wonderful caregivers, special neighbors and Journey Hospice. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Myers Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Sistersville, W.Va. with William Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Friendly Cemetery with military graveside services. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
