Carmon Lola Bailey, 81, of Friendly, WV, passed away on August 14, 2022, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 27, 1940, in Paducah, TX, a daughter to the late Rufus Young and Mattie Lou Hollis Young.
Lola loved family and when she said family it wasn’t just the kind related by blood. Lola took care of and helped so many people that she called her “family by choice and circumstances” and she loved all of them. She was especially involved in her grandchildren’s lives and spent time as a leader in national grandparents’ rights organizations. While her husband, Bill, was living they spent several years traveling the country as full time RV’ers. They loved traveling and meeting new people. After health issues forced them to give up the RV life, Lola spent countless hours gardening and “working on her hill” making the house that she and Bill renovated in Friendly her own little piece of paradise.
Lola was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a Dental Technician in the 1950’s.
She is survived by her son, William (Jennifer) Bailey II of Silverdale, WA; daughter, Wendy Sims of St. Mary's, WV; sister, Sybil Krafft; grandchildren, William Bailey III, Elizabeth (Gregory) Bayane, Geniver Bailey, Czar Bailey, Gerald Bailey, Katherine Bailey, Magadalane Bailey, Sarah Bailey, Danielle Bailey, Joshua Bailey, Jeremy Bailey, Justin Bailey and great-grandchildren, D' Angelo Cummings and Gwendolyn Byrd.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Edwin “Bill” Bailey in 2021; one sister and four brothers.
There will be a memorial service on October 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Friendly United Methodist Church with Jonathan Fox officiating.
