Merle Reed

Merle Reed, 93, of Friendly, WV, passed away April 4, 2020 at Wetzel County Hospital. She was born August 28, 1926, in Friendly, WV, a daughter of the late Raymond Hess and Garnet Irene Broughman Hess. Merle was rural route mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Little United Methodist Church and she enjoyed quilting at the Senior Citizens Center. She also enjoyed embroidery and reading. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Chapman of Wilmington, NC and Lois (Mike) McPeck of Philo, OH; sister, Helen Bolen of Sistersville, WV; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Laymon Reed; sons, Alden and Roger Reed and brothers, Harold, Carl, Bill and Denzil Hess. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Little United Methodist Church, 2722 Rush Fork Road, Middlebourne, WV 26149. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the service will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Archer's Chapel Cemetery with Reverend Don Thomas officiating.
