Norma Jean Smith, 87, of Sistersville, WV, departed this life on April 8, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 5, 1932, in Falls Mills, WV. She was the daughter of the late Harold Henry Cornell and Sara Kathryn Flanagan Cornell. Norma Jean worked as a Secretary for the Department of Highways for 30 years and she was a member of the Sistersville First Baptist Church. Norma Jean is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Dave) Burgey of Sistersville, WV, Cindy Emmerling of East Liverpool, OH and Donna (Ron) George of Sistersville, WV; sister, Phyllis Emmerling of Wellsville, OH; grandchildren, Vikki (Craig) Card, Amy (Brandon) Thompson, and Stacy (Ben) Corll; and great grandchildren, Anna, Isabelle, and Evan Card, Christian, Noah, and Isaac Thompson and Maggie Jean Corll and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Otto B. Smith, Jr., brothers, Bill, Victor, Jerry and Robert Cornell; sister, Linda Moore and sons-in-law, Victor Starcher, II and William "Buddy" Emmerling. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Journey Hospice, 314 S. Wells Street, Sistersville, WV 26175. Due to the ongoing health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, all services will be private. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Darrell Mayfield officiating .
