Richard A. Smythe

Richard A. Smythe, 74, of Sistersville, W.Va., died Feb. 28, 2009, at Sistersville General Hospital. He was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Sistersville, a son of the late William T. and Mary V. Neely Smythe. He retired from PPG Industries, was a member of the Oxford Street Church of Christ in Sistersville and the Sistersville Country Club. He is survived by a daughter, Joellen (Tim E.) Meeks of Sistersville; grandchildren, Tim S. (Kristin) Meeks, Tom Meeks, Anthony (Heidi) Steele, Tammy Steele and Jennifer (John Paul) Cox; and great-granddaughter, Emma Kay Steele. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen V. Lucas Smythe, in 2003; daughters, Deborah Smythe and Pamela Steele; and sister, Emily Thorn. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, with Evangelist Jerry Toothman officiating. Burial will be in Friendly Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
