Robert L. “Bob” Evans, 81, of Fairborn, died peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 19, 1932 in Paden City, WV, to the late Kenneth and Ola Evans. Bob served in the US Air Force obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He also retired from Civil Service after a long and successful career at WPAFB. After retirement Bob logged many hours as a Red Cross Volunteer at WPAFB Medical Center, which he greatly enjoyed. He lived in many cities stateside and abroad during his military career, finally settling and raising his family in Huber Heights, OH. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Janice. Survivors include his faithful wife of 54 years, Wanda “Sue” (Davis) Evans; three devoted children, son, Ken (Carla) Evans and two daughters Nanci (Ronnie) Duncan and Jennifer Evans, all of Fairborn, OH. Bob was the beloved “Papaw” of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and “Uncle Bobby” of many nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by his loving brother, Donald (Kay) Evans of Sistersville, WV. Bob will be especially remembered for his kindness and generosity and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be dearly missed by numerous friends and acquaintances who had the pleasure of knowing him. Services will be held Friday, November 1 at 1:00 PM at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, WV with Rev. Colleen Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Friendly Cemetery with military graveside rites. Calling hours will be Friday from 11 AM until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank VITAS Hospice for their loving care of Bob during his final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fisher House at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
