Ruth Evaline Knowlton Moore

September 21, 1926 — November 15, 2012

Ruth Evaline Knowlton Moore, 86, of Middlebourne, WV, passed away November 15, 2012 at Sistersville Nursing and Rehab. She was born September 21, 1926, in Little, WV, a daughter of the late Lonnie O. Knowlton and Beatrice Mae Archer Knowlton. Ruth attended Little United Methodist Church for over 40 years and was a member of Hope Fellowship Church. She taught at Friendly Elementary School, she was a Home Demonstration Agent in Ritchie County, she was a 4-H Leader and she had a career in the Tyler County School system doing service as Home Economics and Guidance Counseling. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, she was a founding member of the Tyler County Historical Society and spent hours working as a Tyler County Museum member. She was a member of the American Specialty Cut Flower Growers and traveled all over the US for workshops and conferences. Ruth loved giving and displaying flowers. She also received an Undergraduate Degree from Marietta College and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling from WVU. Ruth was one of a kind, she gave the best advice, always true and fair. She was a thinker, a well-educated thinker. Book smart, but also “life” smart. She taught people so much without even realizing it. She had a sense of community involvement, her hard work and determination and at times, even her stubbornness. She got things done, when she believed in something or someone, there was no stopping her. She was ever steadfast in her beliefs. God was first and family was a close second. Together with Glenn, they raised a family full of love for others, a family of givers. Ruth definitely left a tremendous legacy. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Betsy) Moore of Chillicothe, OH and Jamie (Connie) Moore of Fairmont, WV; daughters, Becki Ferrebee of Friendly and Paula (Fred) O’Brien of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Johnston of Lancaster, OH, Erin (Tom) Henshaw of Granville, OH, Lisa (Brandon) Flower of Fairmont, Chris (Audra) Moore of Fairmont, Scott (Jennifer) Moore of Fairmont, Jamie O’Brien of Parkersburg, Christina Hamrick of Friendly and Corey Hamrick of Martinsburg, WV; great-grandchildren, Sophia Flower, Nate Flower, Riley Moore, Samuel Flower, Avery Moore, Adaline Henshaw, Eva Ruth Moore and Aubrey Elizabeth Johnston and sister, Betty Starkey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Moore in 1995; brother, Jim Knowlton, sisters, Edith Knowlton, Norma Jean Williamson and Hilda Stewart, son-in-law, Bill Ferrebee and granddaughter, Alison Hamrick. Also, Aunt Lenna and Uncle Harold Knowlton who raised the family. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 am with friends being received at 10:00 am at the Hope Fellowship Church with Reverend Bill Williamson officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 pm at Myers Funeral Home. Interment will be at Archer’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions to Hope Fellowship Church, PO Box 113, Friendly, WV 26146 or the Tyler County Museum, PO Box 317, Middlebourne, WV 26149.
