Samie Dorsey Grimes, 82, of Sistersville, died Sept. 17, 2008, at home. He was born April 8, 1926, in St. Marys, a son of the late Cecil Grimes and Eloise Lucus. he was a retired iron worker with Union 549 in Wheeling, an Army veteran in World War II in the Pacific and Korean War and a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Paden City, VFW Post 6327 of Sistersville, Moose Lodge 1823 of Marietta, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club in Marietta, received the West Virginia Ambassador of Goodwill Among People from A.F. Manchin and received an Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, a Bronze Service Star, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He is survived by his son, Sammy M. (Kathy D.) Grimes of Sardis, Ohio; daughter, Sheryl (Todd W.) Stockel of Marietta; grandchildren, Adam K. Hossman of Marietta, Barry M. Grimes of New Martinsville, Brett C. Grimes of Sardis, Ohio, Brandon L. Grimes of Loudonville, Ohio, Valerie Grimes of Sistersville and Robert S. Grimes of Weirton; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adopted mother, Babe Smith; son, Steve Grimes; and stepbrother, Ebert Smith. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at the Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, with Father Jim McCafferty officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park in Marietta with military graveside services. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
