Thomas “Tom” Lee Hayes, 73, of Sistersville, WV, passed away on January 7, 2025 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 18, 1951, in New Martinsville, WV, a son of the late Thomas Newton Hayes and Iva Evelyn Slider Hayes.
Tom was a proud alumnus of Paden City High School, where he lettered in football all four years. He also lettered in band and was senior class Vice President. He retired from Momentive (former Union Carbide) as a Master Control Systems Specialist. He was a member of the Oxford Street Church of Christ in Sistersville, where he also taught Sunday School. He was an avid hobbyist with a wide variety of interests including ham radio, RC airplanes, building model planes and ships, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, watching TV and movies, and playing board games with family. He loved reading a wide variety of books (particularly history). In younger years, he earned his private pilot’s license and loved flying. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially cookouts and euchre tournaments. The joy of his life in recent years was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Debra “Debbie” Hayes of Sistersville, WV; daughter, Heather (Jerry) Cullymore of Berlin, OH; son, Thomas “Jarrod” (Lisa) Hayes of Parkersburg, WV; grandchildren, Catherine Hayes and Thomas Hayes; sister, Penny Ludolph of Paden City, WV; brother, Rick (Marietta) Hayes of Middlebourne, WV; father-in-law, Ernest Herbold of Sistersville, WV; sisters-in-law, Temara Hissam of Sistersville, WV, Lois Hayes of Paden City, WV and Sue Hayes of Newport News, VA; brother-in-law, Ernest (Lori) Herbold of Paden City, WV and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Hayes (Clark) Buck; brothers, Stanley Hayes and Tracy Hayes; brothers-in-law, Bill Hissam and Gary Ludolph and mother-in-law, Shirley Herbold.
There will be a memorial visitation on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Oxford Street Church of Christ in Sistersville, WV from 12-2 pm. A memorial service will be held at the same location at 2:00 pm. Following the service, a dinner will be held at the church annex.
