Tom Longwell

Thomas “Tom” Longwell, 77, of Sistersville, WV passed away May 21, 2013 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born June 18, 1935 in New Martinsville, WV a son of the late Grover and Grace Wyatt Longwell. Tom was a 1954 graduate of Magnolia High School and a US Army Veteran where he served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was retired from Ormet and was a member of Elks Lodge #333, VFW Post #6327, and American Legion Post #67 all of Sistersville. He was an avid WVU Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed family vacations at the beach with his wife, children and grandchildren and sitting on his front porch talking to his neighbors and anyone who passed by. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Longwell in May 2012, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one son, Steve Longwell of Sistersville, three daughters, Rene (Mike) Hickman of Sistersville, Lisha (Rich) Wilson of Wheeling, WV, Terri (Bill) Bassett of Hampton, VA, grandchildren, Danielle & Lindsay Wilson, Kristen (Adam) Oberdick, Kailee & Lydia Hickman, Kregg, Jerrod & Bailee Longwell, Tom (Kristen) Bassett, Emily Bassett, Lauren (Coy) Moffitt, great-grandchildren, Mayson & Desseray Moffitt, John Thomas Bassett, two brothers, Joe Longwell, Donnie Longwell both of New Martinsville, WV, one sister, Betty Lasure of New Martinsville, WV, and special cousin, Russ Shepherd. Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, WV, with Pastor Pat Stillwagner officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville with military graveside rites. Calling hours will be 4-8 pm. Saturday at the funeral home.
