God gained an angel on August 16, 2024, Virgil E. Cooper, Jr., 85, of Sistersville.
He was born October 15, 1938 in Tyler County, a son of the late Virgil E. and Edna Mae Lazear Cooper.
He worked at Ormet for 35 years and was a deacon of Buck Run Church of Christ. Virgil loved fishing, hunting and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Bassett Cooper, whom he married on July 24; six children, Sheila Cooper of Paden City, Connie (Frank) Fluharty of Middlebourne, Kathy (Robert) Greathouse of Wileyville, Karen (Jim) Shreves of Sistersville, Barbie (Rickey) Keys of Sistersville, Virgil (Tracie) Cooper of Sistersville; a special adopted daughter, Marilyn of Middlebourne; a sister, Patty Mercer of Colliers; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, grandson, Jimmy Buck and Melanie Pettus and Journey Hospice for their excellent care.
Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Myers Funeral Home with Brother Ed Amos officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2024 from 4-8 pm at Myers Funeral Home.
