Virginia Deuel Mendenhall, 95, of Sistersville, WV, passed away at Sistersville General Hospital, Sistersville, WV on November 19, 2013. She was born July 13, 1918, in Winchester, KY. She was the daughter of the late Archie and Irene Kingsland Deuel. Virginia was employed at Sistersville Elementary School, the former Main Street School as a teacher’s aide. It gave her great pleasure to help children succeed in their educational journey. Her desire to help others was extraordinary. Virginia was very active in the community and shared her time and energy in the Lilac Twig, Sistersville Band Patrons, Women’s Club, Garden Club, Women’s Association, as well as being a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Sistersville. She had an exceptional memory. There was always a birthday card for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and always thinking of others before herself. Her family includes two daughters, Emily (Edward) Johnston, Malta, OH, Merilyn (Roger) Cline of Sistersville, and one son, Timothy I. Mendenhall, Cincinnati, OH; four grand-children, Mark (Beth) Johnston, Zanesville, OH, Jennifer (Rodney) Kimble, Hurricane, WV, Bryon (Janet) Cline, Sistersville and Kerry (Christopher) Stevens, Zanesville, OH; thirteen great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriett Deuel Elliott, Palmyra, PA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Mendenhall, two brothers, Milton K. Deuel and Arch W. Deuel. Services will be held at Myers Funeral Home, with The Reverend Colleen Griffith officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 21, 2013, 11am-1pm with Celebration of Life service to follow.
