William "Harold" Parks

William “Harold” Parks, Sr., 100, of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of Friendly, WV, passed away on January 19, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 28, 1924, in Cairo, WV, a son of the late William Arthur Parks and Gladys Gilmore Parks.

Harold was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII. He retired from PPG Industries as a pipefitter with 37 years of service. After retiring, Harold continued to work building bridges. He built a total of 23, and according to him, he never had a complaint, and they are all still standing! Harold led a happy life, full of hard work, family, friends, church and his love for Jesus. He was strong in his faith and always kept God at the forefront of his life. He was a proud member at Heart of Worship Church in Parkersburg, where he enjoyed continued fellowship. Harold was proud of the farm that he and his late wife, Wavelene, lived on. They loved having family and friends stop in for visits, allowing anyone to fish in the ponds. He loved to display the projects and work he completed on the farm. Harold will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him!

He is survived by his children, Joyce Thompson (Bob Doak) of Newport, OH; Donna (Charlie) DeGarmo of Lenexa; KS, Mike (Sonja) Parks of New Bern; NC, Cathy (Eddy) Midkiff of Charleston; WV, Larry (Jean) Parks of Winfield; WV, Debbie (Maynard) Braniff of New Martinsville; WV, Patricia Parks of Parkersburg, WV; Bill (Sheila) Parks of Parkersburg, WV. 3 stepchildren, Carolyn, Kevin, and Sherry, numerous grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a few great, great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Walter Nathaniel Parks, Wilbur Glenn Parks, Ernest Dale Parks, his sisters Ruth Louise Parks Rodgers, Mary Evelyn Parks Maze, Patricia Pearl Parks Hazelton; his wife, Wavelene Smiley Parks; daughter, Wanda Parks Headley; and daughter, Sharon Hamilton Shriver.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4-7 pm at Myers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Myers Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Henson officiating. Interment will follow at Northview Cemetery.
